Join us to celebrate Labour Day

For many, Labour Day merely marks the end of summer and start of the school year, but it’s far more than that.

“This holiday actually pays tribute to the labour movement and its achievements. It celebrates major gains we often take for granted, like the eight-hour work day, the forty-hour work week and maternity leave. It’s an opportunity to recognize everyone who risked their lives to lay the groundwork for occupational health and safety”, highlights Regional Executive Vice-President Yvon Barrière. “It marks the beginning of a social and trade union solidarity that protects our working conditions to this day.”

Yet much remains to be done. Countless activists are still working hard to reshape the policy and labour landscape and make life better for all workers. Here at PSAC, the pandemic forced us to consider the issue of remote work. Growing inflation has pushed us to fight harder for better wages. To combat persisting discrimination and racism, we are developing proactive anti-oppression training. In short, the work must go on, and this is the perfect moment to reflect, take action and get involved.
