Pink Shirt Day: On February 23rd, say no to bullying !

This Wednesday, February 23, 2022 is Pink Shirt Day. This initiative is a day to raise awareness about anti-bullying. On this occasion, let’s wear our pink sweaters together and say “No to bullying”.

In 2007, in the small town of Cambridge, Nova Scotia, two teenagers from Central Kings Rural High School witnessed discrimination against a gay student wearing a pink shirt and intervened to stop it.

They handed out pink shirts to their friends and invited other students to wear pink shirts in support. The next day, hundreds of kids came to school wearing pink shirts.

The event is now celebrated annually across Canada and around the world on the last Wednesday of February.

Homophobia, bullying and discrimination are scourges of society and affect everyone, regardless of their origin, creed, race, sexual orientation or age. By wearing the pink shirt, we are all expressing our desire to see our workplaces, our union and our communities become more inclusive places.
