As part of the Union of National Employees (UNE) 2026 Triennial Convention, more than 350 members will rallied on Monday August 24th in Montreal to show their support for the bargaining teams currently at the table and to protest the Treasury Board’s insulting wage offer of a 0.5% average annual increase.
Objectives of the rally
Specifically, this rally aims:
- To voice, through the delegates attending the convention, UNE members’ support for the bargaining teams currently at the table, including Parks Canada and Treasury Board teams;
- To protest the federal government’s wage offer, which is clearly insufficient given the cost of living and the private sector’s average raises of almost 4%;
- To show solidarity with the Bank of Canada’s security officers, some of whom are locked out in Montreal while others in Ottawa are currently on strike.
“The Treasury Board’s offer is not a genuine bargaining proposal,” said Alex Silas, PSAC National Executive Vice-President. “It is disrespectful to the people who provide public services on a daily basis. The employer would rather hide behind its management rights than treat its employees fairly. Our members will not back down until they have secured a fair contract.”
“The employer has been dragging its feet for more than a year,” said Sébastien Paquette, Executive Vice-President for PSAC-Quebec. “It is shirking its responsibilities, simultaneously wasting our members’ time and making them poorer. True power isn’t built at the Ottawa bargaining table—it comes from mobilization and concerted action by our members nationwide. That’s exactly what we’re demonstrating today in Montreal.”
