The change from Sun Life to Canada Life, initiated and operationalized by the employer, was not part of PSAC and other unions’ negotiations on a new health care plan. Several months after this switch, tens of thousands of federal workers and retirees are still experiencing issues with their new health care coverage. We are aware that this poorly managed transition prevents our members from fully taking advantage of their benefits.
The Government of Canada – specifically the Treasury Board – made the decision to transition to Canada Life and it is their responsibility to hold Canada Life accountable for the many problems that members are facing.
If you have had or are having issues with Canada Life, we encourage you to share them with your MP’s office. This will help dial up the pressure on the President of the Treasury Board, Anita Anand.
In the meantime, PSAC remains very concerned about the situation and calls on the government to be accountable for improving services to members and retirees as soon as possible. While we have little control over the situation, we hope that this will lead to improvements in the very near future. We also made a frequently asked questions section available to our members, which will be updated periodically.
