“Labour Day pays tribute to the labour movement and its achievements. It marks the beginning of the social and trade union solidarity that protects our working conditions to this day,” said Yvon Barrière, Regional Executive Vice-President. “For PSAC-Quebec, it’s a chance to honour everyone who’s helped shape our organization into an activism powerhouse with an impact that today extends across the entire Quebec labour landscape.”
That’s why PSAC-Quebec is highlighting two important milestones this year: the 20th anniversary of organizing in the university sector and the 30th anniversary of PSAC’s first directly chartered local.
To help celebrate, we are pleased to launch the first two episodes of a new audio and video podcast series, Syndicalement vôtre. This series subtitled in English will capture the ever-popular discussion panels held at our events.
The debut episode features former PSAC‑Quebec union representative Isabelle Renaud, who is now Executive Vice President, Savings Market at Fonds de solidarité FTQ, and former PSAC‑Quebec organizing advisor Mathieu Dumont, currently Coordinator of the CUPE-Quebec organizing department, in discussion with REVP Yvon Barrière about the first organizing effort in the university sector—one that sparked an unprecedented campaign for the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
In the second episode, former PSAC-Quebec executive vice-president Magali Picard, now FTQ President, and Réal Brien, past president of the Aéroports de Montréal firefighters’ local, now retired, talk to current REVP Yvon Barrière about the creation and evolution of directly chartered locals at the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
