Quebec City Area Council July News

A word from the Area Council (AC3) President

The past few months have shown yet again that our strength comes from your dedication, mobilization and feedback. During our day-long strategic workshop and through meetings in the field, we’ve identified concrete steps to strengthen our organizing. Now more than ever, we stand with our members to defend your rights and improve your working conditions. Thank you to everyone who is getting involved. By working together in solidarity, we are building a stronger union. Have a great summer! Looking forward to mobilizing with you in September.

Meet the YQB fire department!

Their job requires unique expertise, constant preparation and round-the-clock availability. They work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to keep people safe. We left the station with a much better appreciation for their dedication and professionalism. Thank you for the warm welcome and for your exceptional work day in and day out. Hold your heads high—what you do truly matters!

Last BBQ before vacation was a great success

Since June 12, AC 3 has visited over 3,000 members in their workplaces. More than 3,000 hot dogs and 550 muffins were served in the spirit of solidarity and community engagement. Despite unacceptable raise offers of 0.5%, workers remain united and determined to assert their rights. Thank you to the locals for their warm welcome and unwavering dedication. Our solidarity and our bargaining power grow with every gathering. Next stop: Valcartier, July 7. We will continue to mobilize… Together, we will win the respect we deserve!

Day-long strategic workshop for AC 3

On June 1, almost 30 activists from AC 3 met from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an important day-long workshop focused on revitalizing the area council. This meeting was a great opportunity to hold frank and constructive discussions about the future. Participants identified the challenges we face, along with solutions and actions that will strengthen our organizing.

It quickly became clear that close membership ties remain critical to union mobilization and engagement. Our discussions stressed the importance of keeping boots on the ground, listening to our members and maintaining close ties with them.

This day-long workshop kicks off our initiative to make AC 3 even more visible, accessible and engaging. A full workshop report is available upon request.

An active, mobilized and united autumn!

All hands on deck: the fall calendar is filling up fast!

In September and October, we will meet with the locals we were unable to visit in June to continue our discussions directly in the workplace.

AC 3 is proud to announce it is participating for the first time in the “On frappe fort pour Leucan” softball tournament on September 26. Our team of 11 players is complete, but we’re still a long way from reaching our goal: we hope to raise $2,000 for children with cancer and their families.

If you’d like to make a donation, either personally or on behalf of your local, your contribution will make a real difference. Every dollar raised will help support the Leucan Summer Camp and the countless services Leucan provides to families.

Finally, our bargaining teams are coming your way as part of our “Pop ta négo!” activities. Come for happy hour, drinks, popcorn and candid discussions with your bargaining teams about your concerns.

This fall is bustling with activities, gatherings, solidarity and mobilization. Together, let’s make our members’ voices heard!
