Updates from the Standing Committee on Occupational Health and Safety
OHS: Let’s take action!
Occupational health and safety are not secondary issues. They directly affect our working conditions, our well-being, and our ability to carry out our duties in a healthy and safe environment. That’s why the AFPC-Québec Standing Committee on Occupational Health and Safety intends to pursue its work with energy over the coming months.
On September 18, the first meeting of the expanded occupational health and safety committee will take place. This meeting will be an important opportunity to bring together the driving forces from our various districts to discuss the issues experienced on the ground.
Our goal is clear: work better together to act better.
The committee wishes to collaborate with the various districts to develop a strategic OHS action plan. This plan will need to reflect the realities of our members, identify our priorities, and allow us to take more coordinated action on the issues affecting our workplaces.
To achieve this, we need you!
Do you have an idea? A specific issue in your workplace? An experience to share? Do you want to get more involved in health and safety? Get in touch with us! The strength of our union action rests on our ability to listen to our members and turn their concerns into concrete action.
Ergonomics: prevention rather than cure
Over the past year, we have also worked on creating a new campaign on ergonomics and workspace. This campaign aims to raise our members’ awareness of ergonomic risks and provide them with simple, practical tools to help prevent injuries.
Materials will soon be distributed across the various districts. You will also be able to pick some up at your district’s meetings and activities.
We are also continuing to modernize our OHS web presence. A new section dedicated to ergonomics and workspace is now available:

New training in development
Because prevention also comes through training, we are currently developing a new training program on preventing post-traumatic shock. We want to give our representatives the tools they need to better recognize risky situations and respond effectively to support our members.
