Our members at FPInnovations voted overwhelmingly in favour of a tentative agreement reached on January 24 after three conciliation meetings with the employer. This is a very positive development given FPInnovations’ complete restructuring and announced massive lay-offs. Despite the challenging circumstances, the bargaining team held its ground to get a fair deal.
“We’re very pleased with the gains the bargaining team has obtained in this unique situation,” said Yvon Barrière, Regional Executive Vice-President for Quebec. “This collective agreement will provide increased confidence and stability.”
Our members at FPInnovations in Quebec City work mainly as forestry researchers, technicians and engineers.
The agreement features:
- Substantial wage increases tied to a performance rating of up to 4.5% in the first year;
- Improved wording on union recognition that reflects the company’s new reality;
- An obligation to notify the union within one (1) week when the employer wishes to subcontract;
- An obligation to hold four (4) union-management meetings a year;
- The application of the principle of reverse seniority if no one volunteers for evening and night shifts;
- A broadening of the definition of spouse to include non-cohabiting spouses;
- A reduction in the advance notice for leave without pay requests from six (6) to four (4) weeks;
- The payment of 50% of the difference between zone 1 and zone 2 parking costs;
- The retention of all salary insurance provisions;
- And more.
