Asbestos at Guy-Favreau: With more than 2,500 workers affected, PSAC-Quebec demands clear answers

Following a press conference held today in front of the Guy‑Favreau Complex, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec Region (PSAC‑Quebec) reiterated its concerns about the possible presence of asbestos in the building. More than 2,500 members work on the premises, notably at Service Canada, Passport Canada and Correctional Service Canada.

While the employer maintains that recent air quality tests detected no asbestos, PSAC‑Quebec is still waiting for the full reports and detailed analyses. This information is critical for conducting an appropriate risk assessment and ensuring that the work environment is safe.

A number of members mobilized today to voice their concerns about the serious health and safety issues this situation raises. “Our members’ health is non‑negotiable. We are calling for full transparency and tangible action,” said Sébastien Paquette, Executive Vice‑President for PSAC‑Quebec.

In light of these concerns, PSAC‑Quebec demands:

  • immediate access to all air quality reports and studies;
  • clear, complete and consistent communication from the employer;
  • the adoption of concrete measures to guarantee worker safety;
  • meaningful and ongoing collaboration with workplace health and safety committees.

PSAC-Quebec remains fully engaged and will continue to monitor the situation closely while keeping its members and the public informed of any developments.
