McGill University: Research assistants sign new collective agreement

Two years after their collective agreement expired, research assistants belonging to the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) have signed a new agreement that offers real advantages.

“It was a long bargaining process and we had to go to conciliation. McGill’s offers were simply not good enough. But today, we’re pleased with the progress we’ve made for our members,” said Sean Cory, President of AMURE.

“PSAC-Quebec is very proud of this agreement. The wage increases will improve the quality of life of these members, who are often in precarious situations. It’s a matter of respect,” added Yvon Barrière, Regional Executive Vice-President, PSAC-Quebec.

The parties reached an agreement on April 21, with the following highlights:

  • Pay increments of 2.5% per year (2021–2026)
