Non-Public Funds: Strong strike mandates adopted in Quebec

To get the respect they deserve, the Staff of the Non-Public Funds (NFP) on Canadian Forces bases in Quebec have decided to ramp up the pressure by adopting strong strike mandates. They seek decent national pay grids above the poverty line.

A strong majority of members voted in favor of strike action at Quebec’s three military bases. We can expect increased mobilization and disruption, and a strike seems imminent.

“As I keep saying, many of our members earn little more than minimum wage. With the rising cost of living, these workers’ situations are becoming alarmingly precarious,” insisted PSAC-Quebec Executive Vice-President Yvon Barrière. “As a result, the employer is having trouble recruiting, which is affecting services provided to our military personnel and their families. This is totally unacceptable.”

Ours members at NPF staff have been without a collective agreement for more than a year. Numerous bargaining attempts have stalled, and briefs were submitted to the public interest commissions. We are still awaiting some of their reports. Meanwhile, the employer has remained unwilling to address our core demands.

More details will be announced shortly, so please take action to support our members by signing a letter of support.
