At the last bargaining meeting, the employer made an insulting global monetary offer that takes no account of the reality faced by Old Port of Montreal members. The Syndicat des employé-e-s du Vieux-Port de Montréal (SEVPM-PSAC)’s bargaining team had no choice but to step away. The bargaining team will instead turn to mediation, which is set for February 23 and 24.
Over several rounds of bargaining, Old Port of Montreal staff had to use pressure tactics because the employer kept refusing to offer adequate wages and benefits. In 2016, we even called a strike to push for better wages for our members. Yet since the expiry of the last collective agreement in March 2021, the employer is back to its old games.
The SEVPM-PSAC bargaining team is not giving up and will have more information shortly. Until then, we encourage members to mobilize and support the bargaining team in its fight for fair and decent working conditions.
