Remote work is a win-win!
As you know, earlier this summer, Treasury Board and other federal agencies have rolled the dice and decided on a three-day in-office telework policy starting September 9. It feels like it was pulled out of a hat. This arbitrary decision, taken without consultation, is highly unpopular with our members, who feel that their employer is treating them like mere pawns.
In our most recent round of bargaining with Treasury Board and other federal agencies, we signed a letter of agreement on telework. Members felt like they were making real progress in improving their working conditions. Regrettably, by unilaterally imposing this return to work, you have ignored that letter and worsened our members’ working conditions.
This is unacceptable. Federal public service workers feel like they’re caught in a game of snakes and ladders. One day, they climb a ladder, the next they slide back down, depending on the whims of a few decision-makers, municipal lobbyists and chambers of commerce.
We want you to help us climb the ladder of success, rather than having to slide down the snake of disengagement.
Stay tuned, as new information will be added to this page over the course of the campaign.
Take action now and let your MP know that you don’t want this policy. The fate of workers is not a game. Demand that the federal government reconsider the application of this policy so that we can sit down with the employer and find a solution that works for all of us.
Show your discontent on your social media and virtual meetings. The government’s decision is arbitrary and without consultation. It needs to be reviewed to ensure a win-win solution.
File an individual grievance. Many situations make it possible. And get informed. Numerous studies prove the benefits of telecommuting. It reconciles work and personal life, improves transportation, is good for the environment, contributes to the regional economy, and encourages the hiring and retention of personnel.
