Union victory at Concordia University: Postdoctoral fellows join PSAC-Quebec!

The mail ballot count confirmed a major union victory: Concordia University research-funded postdoctoral fellows are now officially certified!

“This victory clearly demonstrates what a powerful tool unionization can be for improving working conditions, even in the most precarious environments,” said Sébastien Paquette, Executive Vice-President for PSAC-Quebec. “I want to extend a warm welcome to our new members from Concordia.”

The Administrative Labour Tribunal certified the new unit within the Concordia Association of Research Employees (CARE) directly chartered local. This means some 100 new members will be proudly joining the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) ranks.

Though postdoctoral fellows play a key role in academia, too often they face precarious working conditions, a lack of recognition, and systemic exploitation. Unionization marks a decisive step toward more justice, dignity, and respect for these highly skilled workers.

Congratulations to our new members for their determination and commitment. We are stronger together, and this victory once again proves that unions are a powerful lever for improving working conditions in the research community.
